Choices

Many of you know that I'm going to be signing off of Facebook starting January 1st. This is part of my journey to a genesis. While my family moves towards our heart dream, I needed a new beginning - personally.

As a family, we have many reasons why we are leaving the city and hoping to build something "green" to live in, raise the girls, and live a more simple life, while still living in this world of technology and everything at our fingertips. It is amazing what we have access to: the endless knowledge and information on the internet, modes of transportation, any food we want from just about anywhere in the world; however, most of the time we drown in all of this. We yearn to get back to nature, back to the basics, back to focusing on today.

I started yearning for that in my own life, not just for my family's. I started looking at my life and examining what I spend a lot of my time doing and thinking about. Because whatever it was, it would reveal to me what I love, what I think is important, and what I idolize.

What I saw was ME.

Each choice I made was to benefit me. Each thought I had all came back to me. Each thing I did was to uphold me. Everything. Everything! was all about me.

I started thinking, what things in my life take my time away from what I really want to be important? Oh, there are many things on the list; but, one thing kept coming up. Facebook. Now, don't get me wrong, I'm not blaming Facebook or think it is bad. I've just realized that it isn't something I want to invest my time in. I've wanted to leave Facebook many times in the past. However, I just couldn't bring myself to do it. I would make up excuse after excuse. Gah! Why, oh why is it so hard? It's
because I've made it important. I've put Facebook higher on the priority list than my kids at times (more times than I want to admit), than my husband, my career, my home, my.... God.

Through the little hardship that I have endured in my lifetime I have learned that the harder something is to do, the more worth it is in the end. Easy things don't make us grow. Hard things reveal to us who we really are and how good God is to get us through it. When something is hard to do, it shows us what we value. When I thought about this relating to FB, I had to chuckle. Not much value there. This really shouldn't be all that hard.

The time I free up by leaving FB, I hope to fill it up with something better. Time to truly connect with friends, because clicking 'likes' and making comments aren't really building relationships. I want to take time to play with my kids, learn something new, love. I want to value people. I want to value my time with God.

Although I know I will always have a heart that is full of 'me', I also know that I have a God that can change it. My prayer through this decision is that God will continue to change my heart. As for our family, our prayer is that whatever choices we make and whatever outcome comes our way, it will bring us closer to Him.

Our visit to the Tree of Hope - here's hoping for a great 2015!

Another chapter...

I wish I could say that the suspense is over. But I can't.

Today we finally had our court session (after a week delay) in Penticton only to have the past owner show up with a list of reasons why the court should not accept our offer. The bank's lawyer was able to have time to chat with the realtor to find out more information, but after a recess the judge announced that she did not have enough time to complete the case and asked for us to return January 15th.

So, here we are yet again waiting. Waiting to see what is to come. As much as we feel that which ever way the outcome goes we will be at peace with it, we just want to know!

Jason and I took the long way home and stopped at the lot to look at it again. We also took time to look at a couple of other places already with houses. We enjoyed talking about the 'what ifs' and again changed our plans of what we think we may do.

I am happy that Jason and I are both on the same page when it comes to most things. I love that we don't set in stone any plan or become focused on one outcome. If we were to have a rigid plan, how devastating would it be if it is never completed. We know that something is bound to happen - the world is not likely to come to an abrupt end tomorrow - so which ever outcome comes we may as well enjoy the adventure getting there. Just like a good novel; if you read the last page of the book, the adventure of the story is diminished. So let us read on and see what happens!
